Is there a way to have a real-time tabletop RPG session online? YES!
While of potential interest to anyone playing tabletop role-playing and storytelling games, the following site provides a free service ideally suited to “scattered” gaming groups who would like to play a role-playing game but whose locations are too remote from each other to make in-person, face-to-face sessions viable.
I just received this e-mail from rpgtonight.com:
Just a heads up for those of you may not have been to the RPGtonight
site lately. The first Saturday Night Rumble is happening today. The
Rumble is our site “game night” where we encourage players and GMs to
post in a special chat room that opens off the main page, and hopefully
get together for some pickup games. The Hound will be running a special
playtest of the living game if enough people are interested, and he
and I and a few others will be available to run people through
demos/tutorials of the Virtual Tabletop features.
“Saturday Night” is defined as Saturday night somewhere in the world,
so the chat room will be open and admins around all day.
Even if you can’t play a game, stop in and say hi!

Now, for anyone wondering, rpgtonight.com is an online resource for people to play “normal” tabletop / face-to-face role-playing games online with each other in realtime, using a free web-based browser interface, with a GameMaster section which includes utilities and features to allow him to layout and moderate a gaming session, and various options for players to easily configure and participate as their created player-characters.
Although I have signed up for the site and have logged in and checked out the interface, and was quite impressed by the amount of complexity possible, as well as the fairly simple layout for minimalists, I have as yet not had time or ability to organize an online session with any players for a live demonstration test.

I want to play, but only if I can be a squib, which I have yet to develop…hehe I drew one, though, in pencil.
A Squib eh? Well, whatever floats your boat. Creativity and imagination and enthusiasm are really the primary driving forces behind the entertainment and fun in role-playing games – making your own character, race, profession or whatever else, when OK’d by the GM, can make for some interesting sessions!
