“Selling” a New RPG (WFRP2) to a Group
In a way, it might be hard to “sell” MMO/hack and slashers on WFRP if you highlight all the standard points like “gritty”, “dangerous/easy to kill and be killed”, “no levels”, “roleplaying/interaction heavy” etc. Think hard about your group, especially if they’ve just come from slaying a cave full of Tarrasques with their Epic Level demi-god characters.
Do they really WANT their PC’s to be killable by an extremely lucky beggar, regardless of how developed and capable they are?
Will the lack of levels, of concrete, explicit rating of their PC’s “power” and badassitude, be appealing to them?
Do they want to play what will essentially be Level 0 or Level 1 characters, for a large portion of the start of the game, since there isn’t much besides FP to raise PC’s above anybody else in capability or specialness like in other games?
Do they like intrigue, politics, involved multi-layer plot, investigation, deeper NPC interaction and devious scheming and matching wits?
Do they want a break from typical high fantasy where everything is generally grandiose, exhibitionist, familiar and flashy?
Are they looking forward to one or maybe two combats in a session, which even those might be better avoiding?
If you can present WFRP in a positive fashion somehow, cleverly re-interpreting these kinds of questions in a way that the players actually are interested in, then you probably won’t have much trouble in getting them to try out something new. Good luck!
